Google Sweeps Search Engine Watch Awards

Leading Search Site Recognized for Outstanding Search Service and Most Webmaster Friendly Search Engine

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – January 25, 2001 – Google Inc. today announced that it has received two Search Engine Watch Awards in the categories of Outstanding Search Service and Most Webmaster Friendly Search Engine. Search Engine Watch, the search industry’s leading authority on search engine technology, honored Google’s widely acclaimed search engine for its exceptional performance in helping Internet users locate information from the World Wide Web. Google also won the Most Webmaster Friendly Award by ranking highest within the webmaster community for the search engine that best represents the content of their websites.

The Search Engine Watch Awards recognize outstanding achievements in web search services. In December 2000, more than 150,000 Search Engine Watch readers were invited to vote on their favorite services in a variety of categories, including Outstanding Search Service, Best Meta Search Engine, and Most Webmaster Friendly Search Engine. Danny Sullivan, editor of Search Engine Watch, collected reader feedback and combined it with his own analysis to determine the final winners. Google received top honors over other search services such as AltaVista, AskJeeves, Fast, GoTo, iWon, and Lycos.

"Google undoubtedly deserves to win as outstanding search service," said Sullivan. "I consistently receive positive feedback from my readers and members of the public who are impressed with the relevancy and accuracy of Google’s results. There’s no doubt that Google has raised the bar on the quality users should expect from a web search service."

"There is no greater affirmation of success than to be recognized as the best search service by a web community that truly knows the value and importance of search," said Larry Page, Google CEO and co-founder. "It is through our manic pursuit to offer only the best technology and search experience that Google has earned its reputation. Our company’s desire to exceed user expectations is fueled by webmasters who consistently support Google, and the millions of users who return to Google day after day and publicly share their enthusiasm."

The award-winning Google search engine serves 70 million searches per day, with approximately half of these searches performed on the company’s website at www.google.com. Google offers a wide variety of custom search service products and currently licenses its search technology to more than 150 companies in more than 30 countries.
